I designed the spend analytics in the Roqqett App with the goal of increasing engagement.

Roqqett is the new way to be empowering by your finances and pay and get paid by anyone without needing bank details. Using open banking technology, they're also empowering merchants to keep more of what's theirs.

The Challenge

Users were not engaging with the consumer app which consisted of the following features.

  • instant peer-to-peer payments using QR code or bluetooth

  • view all bank accounts in one place

  • move funds between bank accounts easily


Hypothesis


Existing peer-to-peer solutions are not problematic enough for users to use Roqqett as a means of paying and getting paid.

Therefore, we hypothesised that adding spending insights will help to improve the engagement and retainment rate.

Peer-to-peer transactions aren't regular, leaving no reason for users to use Roqqett between meals out with friends.


How might we increase user engagement and retention on our consumer app?



User research


Main learnings from survey:

  • Top 3 desires: spend breakdown, suggesting behavioural changes, automate budgeting

  • We assumed that budgeting was an important part of financial apps, however most respondents budgeted manually as it is personalised to them

  • Common goals: prevent overspending, saving, tracking saving

Following the user research results and competitor analysis, I ideated on a spending insights experience.

  • Spending breakdown

  • Automated categorisation

  • Preventing overspending by showing % spent
